Do Your Research

Before you purchase your own truck to start hauling, you need to study what you need to have in place first. You will want to get an estimate on business and vehicle insurance. You will want to consider commercial vehicle roadside assistance. You will want to solicit businesses to see if they are interested in your services.

Develop a Business Plan

The next step before you hit the road is to develop a business plan. Check to see if you have the finances to begin this venture and question investors to join in. Decide what type of business you want to be, whether it is a sole proprietor, partnership, LLC or corporation. You will also want to estimate your expenses.

File Your Paperwork

Once you have a map for your business, you need to make sure you are certified with the state transportation department. If you have never operated a commercial truck before, you need to get your CDL then drive with an experienced driver. You will want to ensure that you know all the laws from each state that apply to your business.

Purchase Your Equipment

Once everything is in order, you can head to the dealer to get your truck. Be certain that before you drive off the lot that your insurance is in place and you are fully covered. You will need to decide if you want to purchase or lease. Also you want to leave with a vehicle that will handle the jobs you take. Once you have it home and are comfortable, you can make your initial calls to your customers.
